
Competing in the Tufts Stampede Invitational Fri. and Sat., Feb. 3-4, Wesleyan collected 94 team points to place third of 19 squads in attendance. Wesleyan garnered two first-place finishes as Heidi Hirvonen '15 won the 400m dash in 1:00.54 and contributed to Wesleyan's win in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:06.28. Joining Hirvonen in the relay victory was Julia Frieze '12 (right side photo), Ambrosia Smith '15 and Kimora Brock '15. Each member of the relay also had a point-getting individual performance as Frieze was third in the 600m (1:40.92), Smith grabbed fourth in the 800m (2:25.04) and Brock was third in the high jump (4-11 3/4).
Additional top finishes by Cardinals included a third-place effort by Julia Mark '13 (left side photo) in the 1000m (3:04.31), a runner-up effort by Ceili Brennan '13 in the mile (5:17.81), and a second-place run by Alanah Hall '15 in the 3000m (10:32.85) with Libby Lazare '14 right behind in third (10:35.04). The Cardinals' 4x200m relay of Idara Foster '15, Olivia Grant '15, Geneva Jonathan '15 and Lia Monti '13 gave Wesleyan third-place points as well with 1:50.24 clocking.
The next outing for the team was at home Sat., Feb. 11 when the Cardinals competed as an unofficial entry in the Collegiate Track Championships. Wesleyan had a pair of top finishes as Frieze turned in a 1:19.54 clocking in the 500m and Mark was timed in 10:30.04 for a runaway victory in the 3k. Third-place efforts came from Smith in the 800m (2:24.11), Libby Lazare '14 in the 5k (18:26.03) and Sierra Livious '14 in the shot put (39-6). Hirvonen added a fifth-place performance in the 400m (1:00.98).
The Cardinals will put their talents to the test in the New England Div. III meet at Smith Fri.-Sat., Feb. 17-18 for their upcoming outing.
