Women's Track Has 4 Firsts at CGA Invite Led By NESCAC Honoree Sierra Livious '14 Following Strong Opening Effort in Gravel Classic at Westfield
Hannah Zimmerman '13 (left in main photo) placed first in the 10k race at the annual Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield St. Sat., March 24 in the opening spring meet for the Cardinals. Her time was 38:43.96, almost 23 seconds faster than teammate Julia Mark '13 (right in main photo), who came in third. Also victorious in her race was Alanah Hall '15 (photo insert lower left) as she paced a pack of five Cardinals to the finish line in the 5k with a time of 18:44.03. Picking up 33 team points in the 5k alone, Wesleyan went on to gather 106.5 points for a third-place team score in the field of 14 squads.
Sprinter Idara Foster '15 posted a pair of third-place efforts in the 100m (:12.88) and the 200m (:26.30). Orelia Jonathan '15 also had two strong races in the hurdles, coming in second in the 400m hurdles (1:10.27) and fourth in the 100m hurdles (:16.40). Sierra Livious '14 was third in the 100m hurdles (:16.33). Other top-three Cardinal finishes included Ambrosia Smith '15 in the 400m (3rd, 1:01.44), Geneva Jonathan '15 in the 400m hurdles (1:11.01), Nicole Lepre '13 and Jessica Sherry '13 in the 5k (2nd, 18:50.31 and 3rd, 18:59.75) and Kimora Brock '15 in the high jump (tied for 3rd, 4-11).
Wesleyan was back in action Sat, March 31 with a trip to New London, Conn. for the Coast Guard Invitational. There Wesleyan had four first-place efforts as Julia Frieze '12 won the 400m (1:00.84), Brock captured the 800m title (2:23.03), Geneva Jonathan won the 400m hurdles (1:09.78) and Livious (photo insert upper left) took top honors in the shot put (39-0 1/4). For her effort, Livious was named NESCAC Field Performer of the Week. As a team the Cardinals finished eight of 11 squads with 46 points.
