Dropping their fifth match vs. a NESCAC rival this season, the Cardinals fell to 12-5 on the year following a 9-0 setback vs. #240ranked nationally Trinity Thurs., April 12. The match, during which the team's lone senior Robert Troyer '12 (main photo) was recognized for his contributions to the squad over his four years, began outdoors but before a doubles point could be played, wet weather forced the match to be moved indoors.
Troyer teamed with Jonathan Coombs '15 at #3 doubles and fell by an 8-4 count in the tightest decision in doubles play. In singles action, Stephen Monk '15 (photo insert lower left) took his opening set handily at #2, 6-1, but fell in the second set, 6-4. Playing a super tie-breaker to decide the match as Trinity had already clinched the match with five team points, Monk lost by an 11-9 score. No other Cardinal managed a set victory vs. his Bantam opponent.
Wesleyan will head to NESCAC foe Hamilton Sun., April 15 in search of its initial conference win of the year. Last year, the Continentals ended Wesleyan's undefeated status vs. Hamilton by winning for the first time in nine all-time matches, 5-4.
