Women's Track Takes Nine Racing Crowns to Highlight Annual Elmer Swanson Invitational - Also Competes at UMass
Winning nine of the 10 races the Cardinals entered during the annual Elmer Swanson Invitational at home Sat., April 7, Wesleyan dominated the five-team affair in readying for the Little Three Championships Wesleyan will host Sat., April 21. Prior to Little Threes, however, the Cardinals ventured to UMass Amherst Sat., April 14, for the Minuteman Invitational.
Idara Foster '15 (photo insert lower right) was the lone Cardinal to win two events as she sprinted to titles in both the 100m and 200m events. She also anchored the 4x100m relay squad to first place. Julia Frieze '12 was a winner in the 400m event and was part of the 4x400m relay that took top honors. The 800m crown went to Ambrosia Smith '15 (photo upper right), who also was a member of the winning 4x400m relay. Capturing the 3k crown was Julia Mark '13 while Cardinals were first-place finishers in both hurdles events as well, Orelia Jonathan '15 in the 100m hurdles and Heidi Hirvonen '15 in the 400m hurdles. Hirvonen helped the 4x100m relay to its title as well.
Wesleyan also had the winner in the shot put as Sierra Livious '14 (main photo) continued her solid efforts in that department. She also placed third in both the 400m hurdles and the high jump.
At UMass, the Cardinals had three place-takers, giving the team nine points. In the 400m, Kimora Brock '15 had a :59.14 effort to place third while Frieze was timed in 1:00.46 for eighth place. Wesleyan also got a seventh-place performance from Geneva Jonathan '15 in the 400m hurdles (1:07.74).
