Cardinals Fall to Polar Bears in Season Opener, 3-1, with Goal by Taryn Murray '13, 12 Saves by Tori Redding '13

Taryn Murray '13 (#16, right side photo) cut Bowdoin's lead in half just two minutes before intermission, converting on a play set up by her younger sister Alyssa '16, but the Polar Bears got the only marker of the second period to come away with a 3-1 victory in the season opener for both squads Sat., Sept. 8.  Next up for the Cardinals is another road matchup Wed., Sept. 12, facing non-conference rival Wellesley.

Bowdoin broke the scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 18th minute and upped the margin to 2-0 in the 27th minute before Taryn Murray made it a one-goal game.  A Polar Bear marker in the 52nd minute pushed the score to 3-1 and the teams went scoreless for the final 18 minutes.

Enjoying a 21-5 edge in total shots, Bowdoin extended its home win streak vs. Wesleyan to eight games.  The Cardinals are 3-3 vs. Bowdoin in the last six meetings in Middletown.  Goalie Tori Redding '13 (#60, left side photo) collected 12 saves in the contest covering the Cardinal cage.
