Ashley McLaren '13 Fires Home Second-Half Goal but #2-Ranked Middlebury Overpowers Cards, 4-1

Second-ranked nationally Middlebury stayed unbeaten in 2012 behind a 4-1 NESCAC victory over homestanding Wesleyan Sat., Sept. 29.  The Panthers upped their record to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference as they remained the only undefeated team in the league, which boasts five teams in the top-20 nationally.

Middlebury scored a pair of goals in each half with its two goals in the second period coming in a span of just 1:15 midway through frame. Wesleyan averted a shutout on Ashley McLaren's '13 (#12, photo)  goal with 15:17 to play.  It was McLaren's team-leading fourth goal of the campaign.

Middlebury doubled up on Wesleyan in the shots department with 24 to the Cardinals' 12.  Wesleyan keeper Tori Redding '13 collected 14 saves in the contest.

Wesleyan will be at Bates in a NESCAC game Sat., Oct. 6 in its next start.  That will be the first of two NESCAC games over the weekend as the Cardinals will move on to Colby Sun., Oct. 7 to close out the back-to-back game schedule.
