Wesleyan inaugurated the 2012 fall golf slate by playing in the annual Trinity Invitational Sat.-Sun., Sept. 8-9. Wesleyan was led by Paul Andrick with a 45-81-126 score. The first round of the tournament was shortened to nine holes due to bad weather. Angus McLean '16 was next with an 45-86-131 count while Sam Elias '15 ranked third on the squad with a 42-90-132 score as he posted the team's low nine-hole score on the opening day. Wesleyan placed 12th of 12 teams.
Elias was tops on the squad at the second tournament of the year, the annual Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury Sat.-Sun., Sept. 15-16. His score of 90-87-177 paced the Cardinals with Casey Fratkin '14 second at 90-95-185 and Nikhil Lai '15 third at 96-90-186. Ryan Marvick '14 (photo) and Justin Gitlin '15 rounded out the squad with 96-95-191 and 101-98-199, respectively. As a team, the Cardinals were 25th of 25 entries.
The team then traveled to Williams Sat.-Sun., Sept. 22-23 for its next outing, competing in the Williams Invitational. Wesleyan got an 84-83-167 score from Andrick to lead the way as he tied for 54th among 96 golfers. Next best was McLean with a 93-86-179 score. Others in the scoring five for Wesleyan, which took 17th of 18 teams, were Marvick )88-94-182), Gitlin (102-98-200) and Fratkin (104-99-203).
Next up for the squad is the annual NESCAC Qualifier, hosted by Amherst Sat.-Sun., Sept. 29-30.
