Cardinals Split Opening-Day Matches, Dominating Coast Guard but Dropping Tight Affair vs. Nichols

With three newcomers figuring prominently in the Cardinals' fortunes on the opening day of matches Sat., Sept. 8, Wesleyan defeated Coast Guard during a morning match, 7-2, then fell in an evening affair vs. Nichols, 5-3, as the teams played to decision due to the lateness of the match.  Wesleyan will be back in action Sat., Sept. 15, when the Cardinals host Little Three nemisis Williams.

Sam Rudovsky '16 (photo insert upper left) played first doubles in both matches, paired with fellow newcomer Zachary Brint '16.  The pair proved victorious vs. Coast Guard, 8-4, but fell by a 9-7 count against the Bison.  Rudovsky also was a singles winner at #4 vs. the Cadets.  The third doubles tandem of Charlie Seifer '15 (main photo) and Donovan Suh '15 captured both their matches, winning 8-0 against Coast Guard and 8-3 vs. Nichols. 

Jeff Legunn '13 won in both singles and doubles action vs. Coast Guard to equal Rudovsky's effort. 

Wesleyan's other two points vs. Nichols came decisively from Alex Rachlin '15 at #5, 6-1, 6-1, and Michael Glen '13 at #6, 6-0, 6-0.
