Following their only two dual matches of the fall, women's tennis made a trip to Conn. College Sun., Sept. 16 for a tournament. There Wesleyan had five undefeated performers in a field of four teams (Wesleyan, Conn. College, Oneonta St. and Endicott) with no team scoring. Each college entered two individuals in each of four singles flights and two doubles flights. For the most part, matches consisted of an eight-game pro set, however some were shortened to a simple seven-point tie-breaker due to waning sunlight.
Wesleyan had winners in two of the four singles flights and captured both doubles titles. Going 3-0 in singles flight A was Genevieve Aniello '13 (main photo) while Lauren Jacobs '15 (photo insert lower left) and Jessica Seidman '16 (photo insert upper left) both went 2-0 and were declare co-champs in singles flight B rather than play each other for the title. Jacobs and Hartley combined to go 3-0 in flight A doubles and the pair of Suzanne Gallo '13 and Seidman did the same in flight B doubles, wrapping up the four victories for the Cardinals.
Next for the squad was a journey to MIT for the annual ITA regional tournament Fri.-Sun., Sept. 28-30. Aniello and Seidman competed in singles with both losing in straight sets, Aniello to a Bowdoin rival and Seidman to a Brandeis opponent. Hartley and Jacobs teamed up in doubles but fell to a Simmons pair, 8-9.
Ahead for the team is a New England Division III tournament, hosted by Mount Holyoke Fri.-Sun., Oct. 12-14.
