Wesleyan, led by Kim Farris '14 (#2, left side photo) with 16 kills, picked up 34 of its 52 kills in the match during the first two sets as the Cardinals pulled ahead 2-0 over visiting Colby Fri., Oct. 12. During the first two sets, Wesleyan hit at an impressive .424 clip to win 25-18 and 25-21. But the squad came up with just 18 kills over the final three sets with a .000 efficiency, allowing Colby a chance to recover and win the final three sets, 25-14, 25-13 and 15-11, for a 3-2 NESCAC victory. Wesleyan closes out the home NESCAC weekend by facing Bates Sat., Oct. 13.
Sofia Davila '16 (#15, right side photo) had a career-best 27 digs, an average of 5.4 per set, to support the Wesleyan defense. Still, Colby served extremely well, racking up 18 aces while Wesleyan came up with only two; however, Wesleyan countered that shortcoming with a 12-2 edge in blocks, led by Abby Southam '16 with seven blocks.
Kate Centofanti '14 and Monica Leslie '14 both contributed 12 kills apiece while Brenna Tharnstrom '16 handled most of the setting and accounted for 33 assists during her time on the court. As a team, Wesleyan collected 46 assists.
