Competing in the New England Division III Tournamenr for the first time since 2007, the Cardinals entered three tandems in the singles/doubles format, with Genevieve Aniello '13 paired with Jessica Seidman '16 in the "A" Division and the team of Lauren Jacobs '15 (left side photo) and Madison Hartley '15 (right side photo) as well as the team of Suzanne Gallo '13 with Maddie James '16 competing in the "B" Division.
Jacobs and Hartley came through with a pair of 2-1 victories to advance to the quarterfinals. Each pair plays both singles and doubles against another pair to produce three points. The team which wins two out of three matches advances. Jacobs and Hartley won their doubles matches against a Brandeis pair and a Middlebury couple. Jacobs also won both her singles matches, each in straight sets, while Hartley lost in a super tie-breaker to Brandeis and in straight sets to Middlebury. Jacobs and Hartley fell in both singles and doubles matches to an MIT pair in the quarterfinals.
Aniello and Seidman fell in both the singles and doubles matches to a top MIT pair, the lost in the same manner to the #3 doubles group from Williams in the consolations. After Gallo and James advanced in the first round due to default, then lost all three points to Wheaton's #2 entry. They also got an entra doubles consolation match in against a Trinity pair and lost.
The New Englands concluded activity for the team during the fall. The next scheduled match comes up Sat., March 9 when Wesleyan hosts Little Three rival Amherst.
