Women's Cross Country Nabs 6th Place in NESCAC Meet Paced by All-NESCAC Julia Mark '13 & Hannah Zimmerman '13
Wesleyan came away with a sixth-place finish among the 11 NESCAC squads during the annual NESCAC Championship Sat., Oct. 27. This year, Bowdoin served as the host institution. Williams was a runaway team champion with its 45 point total. Middlebury was runner-up with 71 points. Amherst was third while Bates and Tufts tied for fourth.
Julia Mark '13 (left in photo) led the Cardinals to the finish line as she has all season by taking eighth place among 127 competitors with her time of 22:05.31 for 6k. Next for Wesleyan was Hannah Zimmerman '13 (right in photo) in 13th place, timed in 22:13.35. Both earned second-team all-NESCAC honors for their performance. Wesleyan got the rest of its team points from the efforts of Jessica Sherry '13 (35th, 22:41.75), Ceili Brennan '13 (53rd, 23:11.31) and Chloe Lalonde '13 (64th, 23:31.58) in the senior-dominated Cardinal contingent.
These seniors are unlikely to see action in the Cardinals' next race, the ECAC Division III meet at Williams Sat., Nov. 3, as the Cardinals field a JV squad for the event. The final regular-season meet comes up Sat., Nov. 10 at Westfield St. when team and individual qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Championship will be determined at the New England Division III Championship.
At ECACs, Wesleyan took 11th of 41 teams with its JV squad, paced by Veronica Alvarado '15 in 44th place. Libby Lazare '13 was 53rd as Wesleyan's second finisher in the field of 284 runners. Rounding out Wesleyan's scoring was Rachel Eisman '16 (83rd), Karley Dutra '14 (98th) and Margaux Sica '16 (103rd).
