Women's Track Collects Five First-Place Finishes During Final Home Invitational
Wesleyan athletes came up with five first-place finishes during the Flat Track Invitational at Wesleyan Sat., Jan. 26, the final home invitational of the indoor season. After four straight home meets, the Cardinals will take their act on the road for the first time this season next, heading to Tufts for the annual Stampede Invitational Fri.-Sat., Feb. 1-2.
Sierra Livious '14 (right side photo) continued her fine effort in the shot put as she won the event with a toss of 40-9 3/4, besting a field of 16 entrants by 2-1/2 feet. Julia Mark '13 (left side photo) led a strong contingent of distance runners in the 3,000m event, winning with a fine time of 10:24.43. Wesleyan swept the top three places with Hannah Zimmerman '13 taking second and Nellie Triedman '13 grabbing third. Wesleyan also had the winner in the 5,000m race as Jessica Sherry '13 took that honor with a time of 19:30.85. Wesleyan's final two top prizes came in the 600m from Lia Monti '13 (1:41.39) and in the 800m from Rebecca Winkler '16 (2:29.23).
Livious also added a second-place finsih in the 60m hurdles to her credits while Geneva Jonathan '15 placed third in the race. Four other runner-up efforts were turned in by Idara Foster '15 in the 60m dash; Sydney Cosgrove '16 in the 400m; Kate Cullen '16 in the 600m and Ceili Brennan '13 in the mile.
