Men's Squash Gets NESCAC Championship off to a Good Start with 8-1 Win over Tufts - Bates up Next
Winning seven of their eight matches by a 3-0 count, the Cardinals, seeded sixth, got the NESCAC Championship, hosted by Trinity Fri., Feb. 1, off to a solid beginning by defeating Tufts for the second time this season by an 8-1 count. Wesleyan draws third-seeded Bates as its next opponent Sat., Feb. 2 at Trinity. Wesleyan's match lines up with the #2 Williams vs. #7 Amherst match for the third round. Winners and losers of the two matches face each other in the second match of the day for each on Saturday.
Blair Corbin '15 (photo), playing #7, was Wesleyan's most dominant winner against Tufts, yielding just 11 points in his 3-0 victory. Also with 3-0 wins while giving up no more than 15 points was #1 John Steele '14, #4 Zander Nassikas '14 and #8 Jeff Berman '14. Other 3-0 winners for Wesleyan included #2 Guy Davidson '16, #3 Mike DeLalio '15 and #5 Ethan Moritz '14. Jason Brandner '16 posted a 3-1 triumph at #9.
Wesleyan, ranked 20th nationally, will be looking for an upset against Bates, ranked 15th. Bates has won the last eight meetings of the two squads.
