Guy Davidson '16 (photo insert lower right) and Jeff Berman '14 (main photo) both posted 4-0 marks during the NESCAC Championship hosted by Trinity Fri.-Sun., Feb. 1-3, to help Wesleyan post a 2-2 mark and place seventh among the 11 participating colleges. Wesleyan was seeded sixth entering the tournament and defeated #11 Tufts, 8-1, before falling to #3 Bates, 7-2. In a pivotal match to stay on seed or better, the Cardinals lost an incredibly tight match to Amherst, 5-4, after beating the Lord Jeffs twice in the last two weeks, 6-3 and 5-4. In the final match of the tournament, Wesleyan rolled past Hamilton, 7-2.
The two winners for the Cardinals against the Bobcats were Davidson and Berman as both recovered from deficits, Davidson down 2-0 and Berman trailing 2-1, to win 3-2. Both posted solid 3-0 victories in the hard-fought setback to Amherst while #3 Mike DeLalio '15 and #4 Daniel Sneed '15 both came up with 3-2 wins. Wesleyan also lost a pair of 3-2 decisions in the match.
Six Cardinals swept their Hamilton opponent - #1 John Steele '14, Davidson, DeLalio, #5 Zander Nassikas '14, #6 Ethan Moritz '14 and #8 Blair Corbin '15. Berman again needed to come from behind to post a 3-2 victory.
The next action for the squafd comes up at Bowdoin Fri.-Sun., Feb. 8-10 in the newly established Division III Individual National Championships.
