In the final dual meet of her illustrious career, Cara Colker-Eybel '13 (photo insert upper right) posted wins in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 individual medley to support the Cardinals' cause in defeating Coast Guard Sat., Feb. 2, 144-140. The victory, with the final score a little closer due to Wesleyan's unofficial winning entry in the last relay, secured the sixth straight winning campaign for the Cardinals and their ninth in the last 10 years.
Angela Slevin '15 (main photo) swam to victory in the 500 freestyle, edging Colker-Eybel by three seconds, and led off the 200 medley relay that put Wesleyan in the lead at the start. She was joined by Rachel Hirsch '15, Alyssa Savarino '14 and Alexa Burzinski 15 in the medley relay. With top times in nine of the 14 swimming events, Wesleyan also got a win in the 100 backstroke from Liyan Yao '16; the 100 breaststroke from Hirsch; the 200 backstroke from Liz Baumgartner '15; and the 200 breaststroke from Roxy Capron '14 (photo insert middle right), who was named NESCAC Performer of the Week. Wesleyan's 400 free relay quartet of Slevin, Savarino, Burzinski and Colker-Eybel finished nine seconds faster than the top Coast Guard entry while swimming unofficially.
Up next for the Cardinals is the pinnacle event of the year, the annual NESCAC Championships, this year hosted by Bowdoin Fri.-Sun., Feb. 22-24.
