Unleashing a 20-hit attack, led by reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Andrew Yin '15 (photo upper left), Guy Davidson '16 (photo upper right) and Ben Hoynes (photo lower right), all with three hits, the Cardinals evened their record in Arizona at 6-6 behind their third win in a row, 17-1 over Gustavus Adolphus Thurs., March 21. The squad has three games remiaining during the trip and will play two of them Fri., March 22 against Carlton and Macalester.
Scoring three runs in the top of the 1st, Wesleyan never looked back in taking early control of the outcome. On the mound, starter Nick Cooney '15 (photo lower left) was on his game as he yielded just four hits over 5 2/3 innings of work. Ten of the 17 outs he recorded came via strikeout. While Gus Adolphus pushed across a run in the 3rd, a pair of Cardinal runs in the 4th, coupled with a six-run outburst in the 5th, spotted Wesleyan an 11-1 lead. Six more Cardinal runs came across, five of them in the 7th, to account for the final score. Yin and Davidson, who has an active 11-game hitting streak, both picked up three RBI in the contest while Sam Goodwin-Boyd '15 and Jon Dennett '16 added two each. Six different Cardinals scored a pair of runs including Yin and Davidson. Wilson Flower '16, Mike DeLalio '15 and Andrew Hove '15 handled the mop up work on the mound and combined to allow just three hits and no runs over the final 3 1/3 innings.
Yin leads the club in hitting by a wide margin with his .485 average. In a tight pack behind Yin are Matt Sorkin '15 (.385), Davidson (.383) and Steve Moran '13 (.383). As a team, Wesleyan is batting a healthy .357.
