Cardinals Get Spring Season Underway in Tourney at UMD, Go to Williams for Next Outing, and Finish at Little Three

Competing in the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth Sat., April 13, Wesleyan placed 19th of the 19 participating teams.  The tournament, originally schedule as a two-day event, was truncated to one day due to poor weather on the first day.  Host UMD was the team champion with a 305 total.  Wesleyan scored a 380, led by Tommy Hartnett '14 (photo insert right side) with a score of 91 on the par 72 course.  Next for Wesleyan was Justin Gitlin '15 with a 94 while team captain Ryan Marvick '14 (main photo) carded a 96.

Wesleyan headed to Williams for its annual spring opener Sat., and Sun., April 20/21 for its next action.  There Wesleyan was eighth of eight participating teams.  Brad Improta '14 led the Wesleyan contingent with a 94-92-186 score over the two-day affair on the par 72 Taconic Golf Course.  Williams won the event with a 633 score.  Wesleyan totaled 819.

Wesleyan concluded its spring action Wed., April 24 at Amherst in the Little Three championship.  Wesleyan fell to both its rivals, 12-0, in the Ryder Cup style scoring.  Williams edged Amherst for the title with a tie-breaker decision as the teams tied, 6-6.  Wesleyan's best efforts in the two-man, alternating-shot portion of the event came from the team of Justin Gitlin '15 and Jared Goldenberg '16 vs. Williams, dropping a 3-and-2 deicison while Improta and Hartnett joined forces to come up a 4-and-3 loser to Amherst.  In single match play, Hartnett fell 2-and-1 vs. Amherst while Nikhil Lai '15 lost by the same slim count vs. Williams.
