Women's Crew Grabs Top Honors in Club 8 in Textile River Regatta to Open Fall Racing
The women's crew opened its fall racing season Sun., Oct. 6 with a strong showing at the Textile Regatta in Lowell, Mass. The Cardinal varsity crew of rowers Ava Miller-Lewis '17, Remy Johnson '16, Annie Dade '16, Clare Doyle '14, Kayla Cloud '14, Emma Koramsahi '16, Emily Johnson '14 and Emilie Sinkler '14 with cox Brianne Wiemann '15 won the Club 8 with a time of 21:44 over the 3.5 mile course. WPI was second, six seconds back from the Cardinals and Holy Cross placed third in the event. In the same event, the Wesleyan second varsity 8 finished in fourth place with a time of 22:57.1 and the third varsity 8 grabbed the fifth-place spot in 23:19.4. There were 13 crews in the event.
In the Open 4, Wesleyan doubled athletes from the second varsity 8 and placed fourth out of 19 with a time of 25:29. The second Wesleyan crew of cox Lexi Malico '17, Ellen Paik '16, Gillian Mahoney '15, Anna Melio '16 and Nairi Touryan '16 in the event placed 14th with a time of 27:54.
"This was a nice start for the entire team and shows that we've got some depth," said Head Coach Pat Tynan. "The women were excited to finally race and the results are motivating for everyone in the program."
The squad will be competing at the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston Sat.-Sun., Oct. 19-20 in its next outing.
