With four duos representing Wesleyan in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament hosted by Amherst Fri.-Sun., Oct. 18-20, the pair of Nicki Softness '14 (left side photo) and Maddie James '16 (right side photo) posted a 4-1 record and reached the finals of "B" Division. In the best two-of-three format where each duo played another duo in doubles, then one singles match each, Softness and James won their first four doubles matches, defeating rivals from Salve Regina, Trinity, Simmons and Brandeis before losing to an Amherst tandem. Softness took three of her first four singles matches, as did James, as the couple defeated Salve and Simmons by 3-0 counts and Trinity and Brandeis by 2-1 scores. Softness and James lost to the Amherst pair, 3-0.
Reaching the "B" Division quarterfinals was the team of Grace Smith '14 and Kiley Robbins '14 with a 2-1 mark. They overpowered pairs from Wheaton and Mount Holyoke before falling to the same Amherst duo that went on to win the title. Also competing in the "B" Division for Wesleyan was Cameron Arkin '17 and Ella Lindholm-Uzzi '17. After falling in their opening match, the two went on to prove victorious in a pair of consolation matches.
Wesleyan's lone entry in the "A" division was Clare Dubrin '15 and Olivia Koh '17, and they fell in their initial match as well as a consolation affair.
The Cardinals resume action in the spring during a training mission to Florida.
