Ryan Sblendorio '15 Takes Second Place at 174 Pounds as Wrestling Secures 10th at Doug Parker Invite
After placing fifth during the Cardinals' first outing of the season at Roger Williams, Ryan Sblendorio '15 reached the finals at 174 pounds during the annual Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield Sat., Nov. 23 for a second-place finish. That helped the Cardinals collect 56.5 team points, good for 10th place among the 17 competing teams. Wesleyan had just 12 wrestlers in action during the meet.
Sblendorio took his first match with a first-period fall, then won three decisions to reach the title match but accepted second place among the 25 entrants due to a medical forfeit. One other Cardinal was a top-six placetaker at the Doug Parker as Josh Roometua '16 repeated as a fifth-place finisher, the same spot he took a week earlier at Roger Williams, as he went 4-2. Nine of the other 10 Wesleyan entries won at least one match during the proceedings with seven of them finishing 2-2 or better.
Ahead for the squad is the RIT Invitational Sat., Dec. 7.
