Chris Siracusa '16 (photo) went 4-1 at 149 pounds, including a pin and a major decision, to finish second in his weight class among 27 entrants as Wesleyan tied for fifth among 12 teams at the Roger Williams Invitational Sat., Nov. 16. Four other Cardinals were top-six finishers in their weight class as Matt Pelton '17 and Ed Pierce '17 both placed at 141 pounds, Pelton going 3-2 and getting fifth with a medical forfeit win over his teammate, who got sixth with his 4-2 record. There were 21 entries in the weight class. Ryan Sblendorio '15 went 4-2 at 174 pounds to secure fifth place among 29 grapplers. Josh Roometua '16 also grabbed fifth place in a field of 18, going 4-2 at 197 pounds.
Wesleyan collected 79.5 team points to tie with Stevens Tech, which is ranked 25th nationally. Each of the teams that finished among the top four at the invitational is a top-20 national team with Messiah at #5, Johnson & Wales #13, Cortland #3 and Roger Williams #18.
Wesleyan will return to action Sat, Nov. 23 with another appearance at the annual Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield.
