Libby Lazare '14 Takes 30th of 126 Runners in Annual NESCAC Championship - Team Ends Season Placing 20th in New England
Covering the 6k course at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn., in 22:44.2, Libby Lazare '14 (photo by Kim Ladd '13) placed 30th of 126 entrants in the annual NESCAC Championship, this season hosted by Conn. College Sat., Nov. 2. Lazare has been the Cardinals' top finisher in each of the team's four races this season. At NESCACs, Wesleyan placed 10th as a team. The final team event was Sat., Nov. 16 when the Cardinals competed in the New England Division III Championship, hosted by Southern Maine.
Rounding out the Cardinals' scoring five at NESCACs were Caroline Elmendorf '17 (75th, 24:07.9), Rachel Unger '15 (84th, 24:29.7), Molly Schassberger '17 (87th, 24:35.2) and Christina Hebner '17 (99th, 24:55.9).
At New Englands, the same five runners accounted for the Cardinals' 20th-place finish among 53 teams with a slight adjustment in the order of finish. Lazare paced the team for the fifth time, taking 64th of 371 runners in 22:51.83. Elmendorf was next, followed by Schassberger, Hebner and Unger. All members of Wesleyan's scoring five were in the top half of the field.
