Men's Hoops Breaks 5-Game Skid with Much Needed NESCAC Victory over Conn, 77-68

Trailing by as many as 12 points (19-7) in the first half, and behind on the scoreboard, 49-42, with 13:45 to play, Wesleyan rallied to take the lead for good against Conn. College, 56-54, at the 5:59 mark on a pair of BJ Davis '16 (#4, main photo) free throws and went on to capture a 77-68 NESCAC victory Sat., Jan. 25.  Wesleyan snapped a five-game losing skid this season with the win.

Davis led all scorers in the game with a career-best-tying 21 points, including a remarkable 14-for-14 effort at the line.  He dropped in 10 free throws in the final 4:21 of the contest to help the Cardinals pull away to as much as a 12-point lead of their own, 75-63, in the final minute.  Wesleyan also got 19 points from Joe Edmonds '16 (#32, photo lower left), as he bagged a pair of three-pointers down the stretch, one at 4:40 and another at 2:25, to keep Wesleyan's margin comfortable.  The Cardinals had 11 treys in the game while Conn picked up 10.

The Cardinals got 15 points and a team-leading seven caroms from freshman Harry Rafferty '17.  Joseph Kuo '17 (#1, photo insert upper middle) came off the Wesleyan bench and added six rebounds and three blocks to the cause.  Davis contributed five assists and five rebounds along with his 21 points.

Wesleyan is now 38-21 all-time vs. Conn and has taken four of the last five meetings of the squads.  Ahead for Wesleyan is a NESCAC home game vs. Bates Fri., Jan. 31.  The game will be webcast.
