Eight First-Place Performances Highlight Men's Track Accomplishments During First of Three Home Invites

Wesleyan had entries in 12 of the 16 events during the Wesleyan Invitational I Sat, Jan. 18.  The Cardinals' reward was eight first-place finishes led by thrower Agbon Edomwonyi '16, who took the shot put with a career-best and school-record 49-3 toss and the weight throw with a 43-4 1/2 effort.  Wesleyan also had a field win in the triple jump with Wesley Layug '17 capturing the triple jump with a 41-7 1/4 leap.

On the track, Wesleyan won five of 10 races in the 12-college meet.  Evan Bieder '15 (left side photo) led a contingent of five Cardinals who swept the 3000-meter race with his time of 8:51.80.  Taking the 60m hurdles was Yuon Flemming '15 (photo upper right) in a time of :09.76. Winning the 600m event was Luca Ameri '15 (photo lower right), clocked in 1:25.20.  Rounding out Wesleyan's top finishers were LaDarius Drew '15 in the 400m dash with his :53.08 peformance and Sam Roth '14 with his 2:01.01 time in the 800m.  Drew also had a second-place run in the 60m (:07.26).  Keith Conway '16 was a close second to Bieder in the 3k with his time of 8:55.60.

The Cardinals are back on the home track for the Wesleyan Invitational II Sat., Jan. 25.
