4x400m Relay Shatters School Record at BU Valentine Invite to Highlight Recent Activity for Women's Track
With the bulk of the Cardinals competing well at the MIT Invitational Sat., Feb. 8, a few choice members of the team ventured to Boston U. for its Valentine Invitational Fri., Feb. 7. Among them, the 4x400m relay squad of (L to R in photo) Kimora Brock '15, Sydney Cogswell '16, Aidan Bardos '17 and Ellie Martin '16 came through with a Wesleyan-record performance, placing 12th of 53 entries, and tops among Division III colleges, with a time of 3:54.34, four seconds faster than the previous school record set in 2012.
At MIT, Wesleyan produced nine top-three finishes, led by Sierra Livious '14 in the shot put (third) and weight throw (second). Also grabbing second pace in an event was Alexandra Bacchus '17 in the triple jump, Alexis Walker '16 in the long jump and Melissa Luning '15 in the 400m race. Wesleyan also had the top finisher in the 4x200m relay. Hannah Goodman '16 in the 400m, Rebecca Winkler '16 in the 600m and Nikita Raigopal '17 iun the 800m all placed third in their respective races.
The squad returned to the Boston area to participate in the Tufts Cupid Invitational Fri.-Sat., Feb. 14-15. There Livious had the top finish, grabbibg third in the shot put in a field of 41 entrants. In total, 25 teams took part in the festivities. Livious also had a seventh-place effort in the weight throw. Alexandra Bacchus '17 did well in the triple jump, coming up with a fifth-place showing. On the track, Caroline Elmendorf '17 led the way with a fourth-place performance in the 5,000m race. Aidan Bardos '17 and Nikita Rajgopal '17 took 10th and 11th in the 800m among 42 runners.
Up next for the team is the New England Division III meet at Springfield Fri.-Sat., Feb. 21-22.
