Angela Slevin '15 Breaks Two School Records, is 3-Event All-NESCAC and Qualifies for NCAAs after NESCAC Meet

Angela Slevin '15 (main photo) established a pair of school record on her way to three top-three finishes, all good for all-NESCAC laurels, during the annual NESCAC Championships, this year hosted by Williams Fri.-Sun., Feb. 14-16.  Her 4:32.15 "B" cut in the 400 individual medley gave her third place while her 17:12.09 "B" cut in the 1650 free was good enough for second place.  Both times are school standards.  She also got second place in the 500 free with a "B" cut clocking of 4:59.87.  She also was part of the top finishing relay squad for the Cardinals as the 400 medley relay took fifth.  Wesleyan had four additional top-eight individual performances, three of them from Roxy Capron '14 (photo insert upper left).  Capron nailed down fifth in the 50 breast, seventh in the 100 breast and eighth in the 200 breast.  She, too, was on the 400 medley relay along with Alyssa Savarino '14 and Serena Zalkowitz '17.  Wesleyan's final top-eight placing was turned in by Rachel Hirsch '15 in the 50 breast as she took eighth.

With her three "B" cuts, Slevin qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. March 20-23.  She competed in three freestyle events - 1650, 500 and 200.  She is the first Cardinal female swimmer to attend Nationals since Amanda Shapiro '08 took sixth in the 100 breaststroke to claim All-America honors in 2008.  In 2009, Dave Wilkinson '09 earned honorable-mention All-America honors on the three-meter diving board.  He is the last swimming and diving member at Wesleyan to receive a nod to the NCAAs.  At NCAAs, Slevin's best placing came in the 1650 free as she took 21st in the country with a time 10 seconds above her quaifying mark.
