Andrew Yin '15 Paces 17-Hit Baseball Attack During 13-6 Win over Carleton as Western Swing Winds Down

Collecting 17 hits as a team, with each member of the starting lineup getting at least one safety, the Cardinals pulled away from a 4-4 tie after five innings with a seven-run outburst in the top of the 6th en route to a 13-6 victory over Carleton Wed., March 19.  The game was the first for Wesleyan back in Tucson where the team's western swing began March 9 before playing four games in California.  The tour concludes with a double-header against Macalester Thurs., March 20 and a single game Fri., March 21 vs. Gustavus Adolphus.

Andrew Yin '15 (#8, photo) led the hit parade vs. Carleton with four while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Robby Harbison '17 had three hits while Sam Goodwin-Boyd '15 had two safeties along with four RBI.  Will O'Sullivan '17 got the first RBI in the 6th inning to break the tie as Wesleyan rapped out seven hits.  Goodwin-Boyd got the last and more effective with a bases-loaded triple to push the lead to 11-4.  Nathan Lorentz '17 and Jon Dennett '15 both had run-scoring doubles in the frame while Ellis Schaefer '17 also drove in a run with a single.

Jeff Blout '14 tossed six innings to get the win.  Jimmy Hill '15 and Asher Young '17 combined to throw three shutout innings to wrap up the victory.
