Cardinals Dominate Coast Guard in Opening Dual Race of the Spring, Winning by 28 Seconds
After turning a 15-second loss to Coast Guard in 2012 into a solid 14-second margin in victory a year ago, Wesleyan did one better in 2014 by rowing past Coast Guard Sat., March 29 in Middletown by an overwhelming 28.6-second margin of victory in the varsity 8 event. Wesleyan's boat, which covered the 2000m course in 7:04.4, was ably manned by rowers Ava Miller-Lewis '17, Remy Johnson '16, Annie Dade '16, Emma Koramshahi '16, Kayla Cloud '14, Clare Doyle '14, Emily Johnson '13, Hannah Korevaar '14 and cox Brianne Weimann '15. Wesleyan had one other entry facing Coast Guard on the day and the novice 8 proved victorious by a slightly greater margin than the varsity, timed in 7:40.1 while Coast Guard finished in 8:10.5. Wesleyan raced its second and third varsity boats aganst each other and the second varsity came through in 7:24.0 with the third varsity clocked in 7:47.8.
Wesleyan returns to action Sat., April 5, heading to Worcester, Mass. to take on WPI, Colby, Middlebury and Smith in a five-team affair.
