Leah Sherman '15 Has Big Game with 4 Goals as Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Eastern Conn., 19-4, Before Dropping 12-8 Contest at Bates

Leah Sherman '15 (#21, photo) scored four times, while Caitlin Daniels '15 had a pair of goals and two assists to lead Wesleyan to a 19-4 win over Eastern Connecticut Wed., March 5.  It was the 12th straight win for the Cardinals over the Warriors without a loss.
Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead just :29 into the game on Sherman’s first goal. The Warriors evened it 13 seconds later for their only goal of the half.
The Cardinals scored nine more times in the first half to lead 10-1 at intermission. Sherman ended up with three goals in the period, including a short-handed one with 2:06 left. Daniels and Liana Mathias '17 had two goals each in the half. Wesleyan outshot Eastern 23-2 in the period.
Wesleyan continued its strong offensive play in the second half with nine more goals, three of those from Hannah Plappert '16. Meredith Smith '17 scored her first two collegiate goals in the period as well.
Eastern did pick up three goals in the second half.  Two Wesleyan goalies, Nina Labovich '16 and Grace McCann '17 combined for no saves as Wesleyan generated a 38-7 edge in total shots during the contest.

Up next was a trip to Bates for a NESCAC encounter Sat., March 8.  The Cardinals held a 4-3 edge at halftime, recovering from an early 3-1 deficit.  But four straight Bobcat goals to being the second half spotted the host a 7-4 lead and Wesleyan got no closer than two the rest of the way.  Maddy Coulter '14 picked up her second hat trick of the year to pace the offense while no other Cardinal had more than one point in the outing.  Shots were identical at 24-24.  Labovich posted four saves while the Bates keeper came through with eight.

Wesleyan goes back out-of-conference for its next contest, hosting Wheaton Wed., March 12 in a game slated for a webcast.
