With Anna Howard '15 and Nicki Softness '14 posting victories in both singles and doubles action, the Cardinals ended the 2013-14 campaign on a high note with a 7-2 win over Bates Sun., April 27, raising the squad's overall mark to 6-8 on the year, 4-5 in NESCAC play. Wesleyan now stands 7-3 all-time vs. Bates.
Wesleyan captured #2 and #3 doubles as Howard combined with Clare Dubrin '15 for an 8-0 win while Softness paired with Maddie James '16 for an 8-4 triumph. Grace Smith '14 and Softness, both playing the final matches of their career, posted straight set wins at #2 and #6, respectively. At #3, Olivia Koh '17 (right side photo) pushed her record for the year to 8-6 with a 6-4, 6-4 conquering. Howard was a convincing 6-3, 6-0 winner at #4 and Jessica Seidman '16 (left side photo) secured a 6-2, 7-5 win at #5 to advance her seasonal mark to 8-4, the finest winning percentage on the squad.
Wesleyan was on the cusp of qualifying for the NESCAC tournament, but the Cardinals ended up seventh in the standings, one spot shy of post-season participation. Wesleyan graduates #2 Smith and #6 Softness but has a solid nucleus of returnees to make a run at the playoffs in 2014-15.
