Meeting a team goal of putting all four entries during the New England Rowing Championships in the grand finals, Wesleyan came away with one medal as the second varsity 8 (bottom photo) placed third to secure a bronze medal. The NERC, as usual, was held in Worcester, Mass. on Sat., May 3. The varsity 8 (top photo), after placing second to Wellesley by a scant 2.2 seconds in the heat race, a much improved result over its 12-second setback to Wellesley two weeks earlier, went on to finish sixth in the grand final, won by Trinity with Bates second and Williams third. Wesleyan was represented in the varsity 8 race by Ava Miller Lewis '17, Remy Johnson '16, Kayla Cloud '14, Emma Koramshahi '16, Annie Dade '16, Clare Doyle '14, Emily Johnson '13, Hannah Korevaar '14 and cox Brianne Weimann '15. For the second week in a row, the second varsity 8 knocked off Williams, doing so for the first time in action in Pittsfield, Mass. Sat., April 26 as the Cardinals faced both Williams and Trinity, making up an earlier regatta against the Ephs postponed due to weather. The Cardinals proved victorious by four second in Pittsfield, then by five second in Worcester. In the varsity eight races, Weseyan lost to both Williams and Trinity by respectable gaps of seven and six seconds, respectively.
Also making the grand finals and finishing fifth was the third varsity 8 at New Englands while the novice 8 took a solid fourth in a field of 12 entries.
The crew closes out its spring season Sun., May 11 in Worcester, Mass., participating in the annual ECAC Collegiate Championships.
