The Wesleyan fall sports season inaugurates Tues., Sept. 2 with men's soccer visiting in-state foe Eastern Connecticut at 4:30 p.m. and field hockey hosting non-conference rival Roger Williams at 6 p.m. Twelve Cardinal squads are slated for action this fall with nine of them beginning action during the week of Sept. 1-7. Women's soccer opens action Wed., Sept. 3 at UMass Boston. Women's volleyball takes to the court Fri., Sept. 5 in the Brandeis Invitational, facing Emmanuel. Both tennis teams will be in invitationals Sat., Sept. 6, the men at Fairfield and the women at Saced Heart. The golf team starts play in the Trinity Invitational Sept. 6 while the men's and women's cross country squads are in scrimmage action Sept. 6, challenged by the alumni/ae teams. The opening football game for the defending NESCAC/Little Three champion Cardinals will be at Middlebury Sat., Sept. 20, whch tied Wesleyan and Amherst with a 7-1 record. The crews hit the water in their first head race Sun., Oct. 5 in Lowell, Mass.
