ELLEN DAVIS '07 EARNS SECOND ALL-AMERICA HONOR IN
CROSS COUNTRY
(New England Runner of the Year Takes Ninth at NCAA Championship for
Second Straight Top-15 Finish)
Ellen
Davis '07 placed ninth of 279 runners during the NCAA Division III
Cross-Country Championship held at the Voice of America Park in West Chester,
Ohio Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 to earn All-America laurels for the second year
in a row. Last season, she finished 15th of 213 entrants to become an
All-American. This year marked the fourth consecutive trip to Nationals
for Davis, only the third Wesleyan woman to accomplish that feat.
Qualifying as an
individual for the national cross-country meet by winning the New England Division III meet
on Veteran Golf Course in Springfield, Mass., Saturday, Nov. 11, Davis was
named New England Division III Runner of the Year. The NCAA championship
event was held on a very sloppy course and times were much slower than usual.
Davis was 46 seconds off the winning pace of Williamette's Sarah Zerzan.
Davis also is a
two-time indoor track All-American. She earned her first
All-America honor indoors in 2005 when she finished eighth in the 5,000-meter
race at the NCAA Division III meet. In 2006, she improved her position
by placing fourth in the same event. She also competed in the 5k outdoors
in 2005, placing 12th.
In addition to her accolades on the track and
cross-country course, Davis earned academic all-NESCAC honors in cross country
this fall and gained the recognition both in indoor
and outdoor track in 2005-06. She was selected as a second-team choice for the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine
District I Academic All-America squad last year.
