Placing fourth in a field of 45 teams with each of its scoring five finishing
among the top-50, Wesleyan men's cross country put in a strong showing at the
New England Division III meet on Veterans Golf Course in Springfield, Mass.,
Sat., Nov. 11. The team was rewarded with an at-large bid to the NCAA
Division III Championship for the second year in a row. Last year,
following a second-place showing in New England, the Cardinals went on to
finish 14th of 24 teams at Nationals.
The 2006 NCAA meet was held Sat.,
Nov. 18 in West Chester, Ohio, at the Voice of America Park, which was soft,
drenched and treacherous. Times were minutes slower than usual for the
8k race. Wesleyan, led by Sean Watson '08 in 67th place overall, timed
in 28:11, came in 15th of 32 teams with a 415 total. The next best
finisher for Wesleyan in 90th pace overall was Anda Greeney '07 in a time of
28:26. The rest of Wesleyan's scoring five included Jon King '07 (108,
28:36), Mike Brady '07 (130th, 28:50) and Matt Shea '08 (150th, 28:59).
A total of 279 runners competed in the race.
At Nationals, Wesleyan finished ahead of two
NESCAC teams which defeated the Cardinals at both New Englands and NESCACs
this season - Bowdoin and Trinity.
