Allee Beatty '13 Repeats as All-NESCAC & All-New England Pick After Softball Battles NESCAC Champ & NCAA World Series Qualifier Tufts Close in Season Finale
Taking on eighth-ranked nationally and eventual NESCAC and NCAA regional champion Tufts in their season-ending double-header Sat., April 28, the Cardinals battled a top-10 squad down to the wire for the third straight game. Tufts broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 6th with a four-run rally and then stopped a Cardinal threat in the 7th at just two runs to preserve a 7-5 victory in the opener. In the nightcap, Tufts carried a slim 1-0 lead into the 6th before smacking a pair of home runs to pad the lead to a final score of 3-0. For the year, Allee Beatty '13 (#22, main photo) led the team with a .381 average and stole 33 bases to lead the NESCAC while improving her Wesleyan career-record figure to 89. Named second-team all-NESCAC for the second year in a row, she has 129 hits over her three season, placing her sixth all-time at Wesleyan with a year to go. Beatty also received a nod to the national Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) all-New England second team. A year ago, she was a third-team choice by the NFCA.
