Julie McDonald '18 Excels in the Circle, Annalie Walsh-Costello '17 is Hitting Leader as Cards Split with Coast Guard

Homestanding Wesleyan gained a split of its home-opening double-header vs. in-state rival Coast Guard Tues., March 31 by rapping out 15 hits to end the game in the bottom of the 5th inning, 11-3. Coast Guard had captured game one by holding off a Cardinal rally in the 7th inning for a 4-3 victory. Coast Guard now leads the overall series, 20-12. Wesleyan returns to the field Fri., April 3, taking on NESCAC West opponent Hamilton in the first game of a three-game series. The game is slated for Clinton, N.Y. but could be moved elsewhere. The Cardinals got to the Bears' starter in the 3rd inning of game two, chasing her from the circle while gaining a 7-3 edge, touching her for 11 hits and seven runs. Wesleyan starter Julie McDonald '18 (#7, right side photo) allowed three hits and three runs, all unearned, in the 1st inning, then gave up just one hit and two walks with no runs and three strikeouts over the final four innings to even her seasonal record at 5-5. She had five strikeouts for the game.
