Cards Out-hit Opponents 37-20 Over Four-Game Stretch But Have Only One Win to Show for Effort
Out-hitting their last four opponents in each game and by a total of 37-20 over the stretch, the Cardinals were only able to log one victory, that coming in the first of two games at Occidental Thurs., March 13, by a 6-1 count. The last three games have all come down to the wire as Occidental pulled out the second game in nine innings, 4-3, and Pomona-Pitzer swept a twin-bill Fri., March 14 by scores of 4-2 and 3-1. Leading Wesleyan at the plate over the last four contests was Talia Bernstein '11 (photo insert upper left) with a .500 average (6-for-12), equaled by Marcia Whitehead '08. Right behind is Meaghan Dendy '10 (main photo) with a .417 figure (5-for-12). Dendy has also been a rock on the mound in her three starts, going the distance each time and allowing only 14 hits in 19 innings. She has a 1.84 ERA, 13 strikeouts and opponents have a paltry .189 batting average against her. The squad will complete its series of four double-headers vs. local teams on Sun., March 16 when the Cards visit Whittier. After that, Wesleyan will have six games in the Sun West tournament.
