Taylor Zavadsky '10 (photo by Ron Bernstein P'11) went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the second inning vs. Bethany Lutheran to help trigger a 8-0, five-inning victory in the Cardinals' second game of the day Wed., March 11. In the team's opener during its 13-game trip to Tucson, Ariz., Wesleyan fell to St. John Fisher, 9-1, also in five innings.
Four Wesleyan players in addition to Zavadsky stroked two hits apiece to back the six-hit shutout effort of Chelsea Swete '11 in her first collegiate start. Julia Chamberlin '09, Talia Bernstein '11, Chrissy Bello '12 and Molly O'Connell '09 accounted for eight Wesleyan safeties with Bello smacking the first home run of the season.
Against St. John Fisher, Zavadsky had one of the Cardinals' four hits while Meaghan Dendy '10 scored the game's first run in the first inning after a single, an error and a sacrifice fly by Zavadsky. Dendy also collected nine strikeouts on the mound but was touched for 11 hits and eight earned runs over five innings.
Back in action on Thurs., March 12, the Cardinals again tangle with St. John Fisher followed by a game with Kenyon in the two-game-a-day format.
