Cards Post 2-Win Day Behind Pitching of Meaghan Dendy '10 & Chelsea Swete '11, Bat of Anu Rimal '11

Building leads in the third inning of both their games in Arizona Wed., March 18, the Cardinals got solid pitching in both contests to secure an 8-2 victory over Edgewood and a 9-3 triumph vs. Lakeland. Wesleyan has one game remaining on its excursion, that against Missouri Valley Thurs., March 19.

Anu Rimal '11 (#19, main photo) had a brilliant day at the plate, logging six hits along with a walk in eight plate appearances. Among her safeties was a two-run homer to cap the team's four-run third inning against Edgewood. That helped Wesleyan move ahead by a 5-0 score. Pitcher Meaghan Dendy '10 (#7, photo insert upper right) preserved the win by throwing a seven-hitter while allowing just one earned run with five strikeouts.

In the Lakeland game, Rimal finished her six-hit day with a 3-for-4 effort. Also logging six hits over the two games was the team's batting leader Talia Bernstein '11 as she enjoyed a 4-for-4 game, improving her seasonal batting mark to .526. Wesleyan sent 10 batters to the plate in the 3rd inning with six hits to come up with a 6-0 lead. Sam Epstein '12 highlighted the frame with a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs. Chrissy Bello '12 came through with a pair of hits to drive in three runs during the contest. On the mound, Chelsea Swete '11 (#6, photo insert lower right) yielded just five hits while striking out six with two earned runs allowed.
