BEN BYERS EARNS HONORABLE-MENTION ALL-AMERICA HONORS AT
NCAA SWIM MEET
(Places 11th in 1650 Freestyle at NCAA Division III Championships)
Ben Byers, a freshman at Wesleyan University and
resident of Seattle, Wash., placed 11th in the 1650-yard freestyle at the
NCAA Division III men's swimming & diving championships in St. Peters, Mo.
on Saturday, March 20. His time of 16:02.80 was good enough to earn
honorable-mention All-America honors for Byers as the top eight finishers in
each event are All-Americans while places nine through 16 receive
honorable-mention recognition.
During the season, Byers set two Wesleyan team
records and was beaten only once in a distance freestyle event during the
regular season (16 races). His times of 16:00.95 in the 1650 free at the
NESCAC championships and 9:34.09 in the 1000 free, also at the NESCAC meet,
set team marks. He was named all-NESCAC in both events.
Joanna Tice, also freshman at
Wesleyan University and a resident of Arcadia, Calif., attended the
women's NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships in the same
location the week before, competing in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard
freestyle. Her best finish was 28th in the 50 free.
During the season, Tice established the team record
in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :24.42. She placed fifth in
the 50 free during the NESCAC championships.
