DINA GUTH OF WESLEYAN NAMED LINDSAY MOREHOUSE AWARD
WINNER
(Wesleyan Women's Tennis Player Honored with Prestigious Award at New England
Tournament)
Dina Guth, a senior at Wesleyan University in
Middletown, Conn., and a resident of Lexington, Mass., received the
prestigious Lindsay Morehouse Memorial Award at the New England Division III
women's tennis championships hosted by Amherst College, October 17-19.
The award, established by Williams College in 2001 to
honor Lindsay Morehouse, a 2000 Williams graduate and tennis stalwart who died
in the 9-11 disaster in New York City, is presented to a player who best
displays sportsmanship, friendliness, character, fair play and hard work. The
coaches of the 24 teams involved in the tournament vote for the recipient
among the approximately 150 athletes competing in the event.
Guth has been the no. 1 singles player at Wesleyan for
the last three seasons and is a four-year varsity performer. This fall, Guth
went 3-5 at no. 1 singles and 1-7 at no. 1 doubles as Wesleyan posted a 1-7
dual-match record. She also went 1-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles at the New
England tournament as Wesleyan finished in a tie for eighth. Over her four
seasons, Guth has a collective singles record of 37-28 and a doubles mark of
31-36 with 41 of her 65 singles matches at no. 1 and 53 of her 67 doubles
matches at no. 1.
Guth is the daughter of Giora Guth of 24 Mason Street
in Lexington and is a 2000 graduate of Lexington High School where she was a
four-time varsity letterwinner in tennis, finishing her career there as no. 2
in singles and no. 1 in doubles.
At Wesleyan, Guth is majoring in both Classics and
Medieval studies, is a top player in women's squash as she played half her
matches an no. 1 and half at no. 2 during the 2002-03 season, and was a NESCAC
academic all-conference honoree in tennis last year.
