(Friday, May 6, 2005)The winners of team awards in Wesleyan University's
29 varsity sports as well as several additional major
awards that are given for overall achievement were
announced at the University's All-Sports Banquet, held
Thursday, May 5, at Wesleyan's Freeman Athletic Center. A
complete list of award winners follows.
In women's athletics, each of the college's 14 varsity teams presents the Jones Award to its outstanding contributor. Those winners
are:
Basketball - Nora Bowman '05 (Guilford, Conn.) ;
Crew - Flavia DeSouza '05 (Kingston, Jamaica) ;
Cross Country - Courtney Quirin '05 (Villanova, Pa) ;
Field Hockey - Jen Wasserman '05 (Branford, Conn.) ;

Indoor Track - Stephanie O'Brien '08 (Newton, Mass.) ;

In addition, women's crew presents the Coxswains Award
to the upperclass member of the team who exhibits a high level of
technical skill, consistency and supports the cohesiveness of the team.
The recipient is Anne Lodick '07 (Buffalo, N.Y.). Softball presents the
Meredith Frummer Memorial Award to the player with the
highest batting average for the season. The recipient is
Becca Feiden '08 (Takoma Park, Md.).

Football - Eck Memorial Award (to the player who exemplifies the best in team spirit, sportsmanship

Football - Luke Yohan Memorial Award (to the senior player who raises his level of play in Little Three
games while demonstrating the strength of character, passion for the game and above all, devotion to his teammates

Tennis - Wood Memorial Award (to the player who demonstrates leadership, discipline, competitive spirit

Tennis - Fred B. Millett and Mike B. Burton Memorial Award (to the doubles player who best combines the qualities of skill, spirit and
sportsmanship exemplified by Fred B. Millett '65) - Evan Rhodes '05

Track & Field - Martin Award (to the member of the team best exemplifying sportsmanship,
friendship and leadership) - Justin Freiberg '04 (Brookline, Mass.) ;
Wrestling - Most Valuable Wrestler Award (to the wrestler who contributes the most to the team's success
through his outstanding leadership, loyalty, dedication, excellent performance, unselfish behavior, steadfast
determination and enjoyment of the sport) - Adam Jonas '04 (Francestown,
N.H.).
Three other major awards were presented. The Maynard
Memorial Award is presented to the male and female
scholar-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit,
accomplishment and humility of Roger Maynard '37. The
recipients are Adam Jonas '04 (Francestown, N.H.) (male
recipient) and Courtney Quirin '05 (Villanova, Pa.)
(female recipient). The Ahrens Memorial Award is
presented to the male athlete who has best combined the
qualities of Carl R. Ahrens '60. The recipient is Wes Fuhrman '05
(Sun River, Ore.). The Hoagland Award is presented to the person who
makes an outstanding contribution to women's athletics. The recipient is
Becca Vogel '05
