The winners of team awards in Wesleyan University's 29 varsity sports as well as several additional major awards that are given for  overall achievement were announced at the University's All-Sports Banquet, held Thursday, May 10, in the Daniels Lobby of the Wesleyan's Freeman Athletic Center. A complete list of award winners follows.

In women's athletics, each of the college's 14 varsity teams presents the Jones Award to its outstanding contributor.  Those winners are: 
Basketball - Kelly Bowman '07  (Guilford, Conn.) ;
Crew - Amy Nebenhaus '07  (Flushing, N.Y.) ;
Cross Country - Ellen Davis '07  (Marshall, N.C. - formerly Montclair, N.J.) ;
Field Hockey - Cortney Tetrault '07  (Hatfield, Mass.) ;
Ice Hockey - Rachel Stemerman '09  (Williamsville, N.Y.) ;
Indoor Track - Ellen Davis '07  (Marshall, N.C. - formerly Montclair, N.J.) ;
Lacrosse - Jen Bianculli '07  (East Setauket, N.Y.) ;
Soccer - Gavi Elkind '09  (San Francisco, Calif.) ;
Softball - Marcia Whitehead '08  (Cambridge, Mass.) & Molly Gaebe '07 (Miami, Fla.) ;
Squash - Andrea Giuliano '09  (Wethersfield, Conn.) ;
Swimming & Diving - Catherine Kast '09  (Greenwich, Conn.) ;
Tennis - Madalina Ursu '09  (Bucharest, Romania)  ;
Track & Field - Ellen Davis '07  (Marshall N.C. - formerly Montclair, N.J.) ;
Volleyball - Tory Molnar '07  (Pasadena, Calif.).

In addition, women's crew presents the Coxswains Award to the upperclass member of the team who exhibits a high level of technical skill, consistency and supports the cohesiveness of the team. The recipient is Beth Ogata '09  (Winnetka, Ill.). Softball presents the Meredith Frummer Memorial Award to the player with the highest batting average for the season. The recipient is Marcia Whitehead '08 (Cambridge, Mass.).

In men's athletics, the following awards (with descriptions) were presented:
Baseball - MacNaughten Memorial Award (for outstanding achievement in the sport) - Chris Graceffa '07  (Waltham, Mass.) ;
Basketball - The Morningstar Award (to the player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, leadership, determination and unselfishness) - Jimmy Shepherd '07 (Charlevoix, Mich.) ;
Crew - The Founder's Oar (to the outstanding oarsman) - Not yet awarded ;
Crew - The Captain's Oar (to the rower who best demonstrates dedication and sportsmanship) - Not yet awarded ;
Cross Country - J. Elmer Swanson Award  (to the runner who distinguishes himself through his commitment to the team's success and his own improvement) - Nick Holowka '07  (Ithaca, N.Y.) ; 
Football - Bacon Award (to the player whose efforts during the season contributed the most to the
team's success) - Quincy Francis '06  (Stamford, Conn.) ;
Football - Eck Memorial Award  (to the player who exemplifies the best in team spirit, sportsmanship and devotion to the game of football) - Corey Baker '07  (Beverly, Mass.) ;
Football - Luke Yohan Memorial Award  (to the senior player who raises his level of play in Little Three games while demonstrating the strength of character, passion for the game and above all, devotion to his teammates exhibited by Luke Yohan '97) - Jeff McLaren '06  (Essex Junction, Vt.) ;
Golf - Wood Memorial Award  (to the outstanding golfer) - Dave Velardo '08  (Wilmington, Mass.) ;
Ice Hockey - William Spurrier Award  (to the team's most valuable player) - Will Bennett '07  (Boston, Mass.) ;
Ice Hockey - Scanlon LaCross Memorial Award   (to the player whose character and effort were exemplary) - Taylor Evans '07  (Milton, Mass.) ;
Indoor Track - Coaches Award  (to the member of the team who through outstanding leadership, loyalty, dedication, excellent performance, unselfish behavior and enjoyment of the sport, contributes the most to the success of the team) - Owen Kiely '06  (Athol, Mass.) ;
Lacrosse - "MVP" Award  (to the team's most valuable player) - Charlie Congleton '07  (Groton, Mass.)  ;
Lacrosse - William T. Call III Memorial Award  (to the player who exemplifies the best in team spirit, sportsmanship, unselfishness and devotion to the game of lacrosse) - Jeff McLaren '07 (Essex Junction, Vt.) and  Mike Hines '07 (Newburyport, Mass.) ;
Soccer - Raymond Walsh Memorial Award  (to the player who has shown outstanding ability and leadership) - Jared Ashe '07  (Stamford, Conn.) ;
Soccer - Bernie O'Rourke Memorial Award (to the player whose devotion to the game of soccer and his teammates is exemplary) - Peter Glidden '07  (Algodones, N.M.) ;
Squash - Henri Salaun Intercollegiate Squash Award  (to the player who distinguishes himself through his commitment to the team's success and his own improvement) - Not awarded in 2006-07 ;
Swimming & Diving - McCurdy Award  (to the member of the team who best exemplifies leadership and sportsmanship) - Ben Byers '07  (Seattle, Wash.) ;
Tennis - Wood Memorial Award  (to the player who demonstrates leadership, discipline, competitive spirit and sportsmanship) - Vijay Chaudhuri '07  (Glen Ridge, N.J.) ;
Tennis - Fred B. Millett and Mike B. Burton Memorial Award  (to the doubles player who best combines the qualities of skill, spirit and sportsmanship exemplified by Fred B. Millett '65) - Tallen Todorovich '07  (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) ;
Track & Field - Martin Award  (to the member of the team best exemplifying sportsmanship, friendship and leadership) - Sam Grover '08  (Williston, Vt.) ;
Wrestling - Most Valuable Wrestler Award  (to the wrestler who contributes the most to the team's success through his outstanding leadership, loyalty, dedication, excellent performance, unselfish behavior, steadfast determination and enjoyment of the sport) - Dan deLalla '07  (Virginia Beach, Va.).


Three other major awards were presented. The Maynard Memorial Award is presented to the male and female scholar-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit, accomplishment and humility of Roger Maynard '37. The recipients are Matt Burke '07 (Somers, N.Y.) (male recipient - lacrosse) and Tory Molnar '07 (Pasadena, Calif.) (female recipient - volleyball). The Ahrens Memorial Award is presented to the male athlete who has best combined the qualities of Carl R. Ahrens '60. The recipient is Charlie Congleton '07  (Groton, Mass. - lacrosse). The Hoagland Award is presented to the person who makes an outstanding contribution to women's athletics. The recipient is Ellen Davis '07  (Marshall, N.C. - formerly Montclair, N.J. - cross country/track).
