WALTER CURRY NAMED HEAD COACH OF TRACK & FIELD AT WESLEYAN
Walter Curry, a 1987 graduate of Iowa State University who has been an assistant track and field coach at Boston College for the past eight years, has been named acting head coach of Wesleyan's indoor and outdoor track and field teams for the 2001-02 year, athletics director John Biddiscombe announced.
An outstanding sprinter and hurdler while a student at Iowa State, Curry was part of the Cyclones' indoor and outdoor Big Eight conference champion squads with several top-three conference finishes and a trip to the NCAA Division I Championships in 1986 to his credit. Curry also was a student coach at Iowa State's track and field camp during the summer of 1985 and 1986. In addition, he has coached at the Brown University track and field camp the last four years, was a clinician at the 2000-01 New England High School Track and Field Coaches Clinic and was writer, co-producer and clinician for a video production on hurdling which was distributed nationally by Championship Books and Video Productions in 1998.
A U.S.A.T.F. Level II cetified coach in sprints, hurdles and jumps, Curry handled these events at Boston College. He also served a track staff liaison to numerous other departments at Boston College, including the athletic academic services, NCAA compliance, sports medicine, athletic facilities & operations and athletic business departments.
