David Tedeschi, a 1996 graduate of Colby College, was named interim head coach
of men's and women's squash at Wesleyan University, athletics director John
Biddiscombe announce this week. Tedeschi steps into the vacancy left by
David Cukierman, who had been in charge of the Wesleyan squash program for
three years but recently accepted a position with a private club in the
Philadelphia area.
Tedeschi will be coaching at the collegiate level for the first time after
teaching, administrating and coaching at the Woodstock School in Mussoorie,
India for the last two years. There he taught English, worked as a staff
trainer in the information communications technology department and coached
the varsity tennis team. He also served as staff sponsor for the squash and
chess clubs at Woodstock School.
From 1999 through 2001, Tedeschi worked in New York City with a year as
director of conferences for Fulcrum Information Services, Inc. and a year in
marketing for American International Group, Inc.
His first position after leaving Colby College, where he was a two-year
captain in tennis and was voted most valuable player in that sport while also
captaining the squash team, was as a business service representative for
Keyport Life Insurance Company in Boston, Mass.
"We are very pleased that someone of David's caliber was available to take
over our squash program on such short notice," said Biddiscombe. "His
experience as an outstanding player and his coaching in India, where squash is
extremely popular, will be beneficial to our players. David is a welcome
addition to our staff this year."
