WESLEYAN FIELD HOCKEY DEFENDS ECAC TITLE

WITH 2-1 OVERTIME VICTORY AGAINST CLARK IN CHAMPIONSHIP

MEDFORD, Mass. --- Carlin Aloe, named tournament MVP, scored the game- winning goal with 5:08 remaining in the second overtime to lift Wesleyan to a 2-1 victory over Clark University in the championship game of the 2000 ECAC New England Division III tournament hosted by Tufts University this afternoon.

This win, coupled with a 1-0 double-overtime win in the first round against Conn. College and a 1-0 semi-final triumph over top-seeded and host Tufts, allowed Wesleyan to defend the title it captured a year ago. In 1999, Wesleyan defeated Middlebury, Colby and Tufts en route to its first ECAC title. In the first two wins of the 2000 tournament, Laura Pfeiffenberger scored the decisive goal and Taryn Hutchin-Cabibi posted a shutout in goal. The shutouts brought Hutchins-Cabibi's career total to 19, a Wesleyan team record. Pfeiffenberger ended the season with 10 goals, tying her with Jenna Flateman, who netted the opening goal in the first half against Clark, for the team lead. Aloe closed out the year as the team's top point getter with 28 on seven goals and a Wesleyan seasonal team record 14 assists.

Wesleyan also tied its team record for wins in a season as the team posted a 13-5 mark. Last year's squad closed out the campaign with a 13-4 record.
