WESLEYAN MEN'S SOCCER EMBARKS ON 10-DAY TRIP TO GREAT BRITAIN
Taking its first overseas excursion since traveling to Germany during the summer of 1996, the Wesleyan University men's soccer team, under fourth-year head coach Geoff Wheeler, will arrive at London Airport Friday morning, August 16, for a 10-day trip that includes four contests against local squads to be played in Scotland.
With a travel party of 22 players and four coaches, the Wesleyan contingent will begin action on Saturday, Aug. 17, facing Aberdeen U-19 (a 1st Division team from Scotland). The team's second game comes on Tuesday, Aug. 20 against Newtown, a semi-pro team. Game #3 features West Bromley (a premier club) on Wednesday, Aug. 21, and the final contest against Stevenage Borough Football Club is slated for Friday, Aug. 24. The Wesleyan squad will take in several pro games as well as do plenty of sight-seeing while abroad. The team returns on Monday, Aug. 26.
Last year, the Cardinals posted a solid 9-4-1 regular-season record and qualified for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tournament, losing on penalty kicks to Tufts in the first round.
