Ben Byers 07

      1-16-06~ Despite a hard fight both the Men and Women Cardinals fell to Williams College and Tuft University on Sunday. On the Men's side junior Ben Byers (Seattle Washington) came up with an individual win in the 1650 with a NCAA B cut of 16:07.00, senior co-captain Rob Mitchell (Darien, CT) also scored for the Cardinals in the mile finishing 4th. Senior co-captain Dan Devine  finished a strong second in the 100 breast with a season best time. In the most exciting race of the evening, Byers and Williams swimmer Steve Spinelli had quite the duel in the 500 free. Spinelli lead the whole race with Byers making a strong comeback but Spinelli ended up touching Byers out by .04.

   On the Women's side, sophomores Kate Krems (Newton, MA) and Amanda Shapiro (Miller's Place, NY) both won individual events. Krems won the 100 fly and also placed 3rd in the 200 free. Shapiro won the 100 breast and finished 2nd in the 200 breast. Shapiro's 100 breast time of 1:07.69 qualified as an NCAA B cut.  Senior captain Stephanie Lasby (Tacoma, WA) placed 3rd in the 1650 free. The Cardinals take on Colby-Sawyer, Clark, and Connecticut College this Saturday at 1pm.
