Knocking off both Bates and Colby in three games and downing Bowdoin in four, the Cardinals moved to 3-0 in NESCAC play and 4-1 overall with the wins in Maine Fri. and Sat., Sept. 14-15. Setter Ellie Healy '10 (#10, photo) averaged 11.4 assists a game while adding 29 digs. In the hitting department , kills leader Lisa Drennan '09 contributed 43 during the three matches. Also coming through with a strong effort with 23 kills over the three matches was Fotini Xenidis '11 while libero Ruby Hernandez '11 produced 53 digs and 12 aces over the course of the weekend. Wesleyan's 3-0 conference mark ties it with Conn. College for the early lead in the standings while Amherst and Williams both opened at 2-0 as the four undefeated squads in league play. Wesleyan followed up its wins in Maine with a solid 3-1 road win at R.I.C., Tues., Sept. 18, to run its record to 5-1 heading into the MIT Invitational this weekend. In an opening-round match Fri., Wesleyan will face Muhlenberg, then play either host MIT or Bowdoin in a second-round match. Matches on Sat. remain TBA.
